The Meaning
Some doors are not locked. They remain closed because their only handle waits on the side we avoid entering.
The Story
The door had no handle on the side facing the world. Soren spent sixteen years bringing it keys. He tried iron keys blessed by priests, bone keys cut from family relics, and one glass key said to open whatever a person feared most. None found a lock. Around the frame, the ground was worn by thousands of footsteps approaching and turning away. One winter morning, Soren pressed his ear to the wood. From the other side came the sound of his own hand resting on a latch. The door stood alone in a salt plain. Soren had first found it after his wife, Amel, left their home. She had written no explanation beyond: **I cannot keep answering questions you refuse to ask yourself.**
